Jen Gets Six Pack Abs with Hitch Fit Online Fitness Model Program

I’m excited to share Jen’s transformation story with you today! Jen was involved in sports throughout her life, but at 45 found that she wasn’t happy with how she had let things slide due to her genetics for a period of time. She decided to kick things up a notch, get on a structured program, and went for the Fitness Model Plan. She learned a lot about her body through this period of time and ended up with some amazing Abs!! Jen went from 17% body fat to an ultra lean 12%. Incredibly proud of her success!
Jen’s Stats:
Starting weight: 150
Ending weight: 142.6
Starting body fat: 17%
Ending body fat: 12.2%
Jen’s Story:
“I left the world of consistent physical activity and fitness over a decade ago, after having been involved in sports on some level starting in grade school. Not surprisingly, this was initiated by two significant events. In the span of 4 months in 2000, I was hit with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (which, quite literally, nearly killed me) and the very rapid diagnosis and passing of my mother from metastatic melanoma. To top it off, very soon after those two events I opened my solo chiropractic clinic. For any of you in business for yourselves, you can appreciate the stress of running your own business – much less the stress of that added to the emotional and physical toll I had undergone before opening. To say I struggled, on many levels for many years, is an understatement.
Fast forward to spring/summer 2012 as I contemplated and then began my HitchFit program, and I would offer these thoughts about where I started and where I am now:
1) I was getting by but falling behind.
2) I could fit into my jeans……but I wasn’t fit.
3) Live your life like an experiment.
4) Change is change – big or small, transformation is transformation.
I was getting by but falling behind.
I have been blessed with what I would call genes that trend toward being lean from both sides of my family and am grateful for that. Of course, your genes are NOT your destiny as the science of epigenetics – how your environment and choices can influence your genetic expression – has shown us. And, the environment in which I was surrounding my cells and physiology the last 12 years wasn’t optimal, to say the least – a fact I was starting to notice more and more significantly this year.
So, while I’m grateful for my genetic inheritance, it has allowed me to ‘get by’ in that I could make choices re: lack of exercise, not eating the most consistently healthy diet, etc. without a huge impact on my physique. I’ve had patients (before my HitchFit program) comment how they thought I was healthy, looked active, etc. strictly based on appearance. I offered them this response, “It’s all an illusion.” And it was. Again, I could get by looking “good” by our culture’s standards, but I was nowhere near anything approaching fitness or a truly clean lifestyle re: eating and food choices, and I knew it. I have a dear friend who owns a gym focusing on personal training in a group setting, functional movements, etc. – I knew I could maybe, probably get through her work outs – emphasis on maybe, probably – but I would just be getting by in doing so. I most certainly wouldn’t be performing at my best, physically or mentally. And in the end, who really wants to just get by in their life???
Maybe more significantly, having worked with aging patients through the years, I saw the effects of an unhealthy, un-well lifestyle every day. I’m a fan of saying you should put the odds in your favor with your health – via eating well, moving your body, having strength training as part of your mix, keeping positive influences around you, etc. It was time for me to start putting my talk into my walk.
Which leads me to my second point……..
My jeans fit….but I wasn’t fit.
Actually, to be more specific, my jeans were fitting…..but less so than in previous years. There were what I call my yoga pants moments, “Can’t wait to get home and change into my yoga pants.” Anyone familiar with feeling that way? So, the writing was on the wall. In addition, my energy wasn’t the greatest, my low back had a chronic tightness and discomfort, and my health/activity level was in a state of “meh.” My weight hadn’t really changed too drastically, but my body composition had. I knew changes needed to be made or I was just going to slowly get by and slowly be less healthy as the years passed
I started by doing the Insanity 90 day program, which was a good way for me to get back into a routine of cardiovascular fitness. However, I didn’t really change my eating habits during that program (not fully realizing just how off the mark I was in getting not only the right foods but also the right amount for my body). When I did my body composition reading for Diana to start my program, I noticed my weight was higher than previously measured…and my body fat percentage was, also, higher than in previous readings. I was clearly missing some key pieces to seeing the results I wanted.
I knew enough about myself to understand that I needed a program – something set up, lined out with information, applicable to my gym options (kind of limited in my small central KS community) and effective – enter HitchFit.
I live by the thought that things do happen for a reason – that people, events, books, thoughts, etc. are put in front of you for you to recognize as beneficial or not. So, in the spring/summer of 2012, HitchFit came across my radar via Tionna Kuhnhoff, WBFF Pro. Tionna’s a former co-worker of mine, and I started following the discussion in the Facebook group. After several months of “watching” everyone’s progress, I emailed Diana and signed up.
So, it was time to put another favorite thought of mine into action…….
Live your life like an experiment.
This is a simple concept – short and sweet. Try different things with your health/lifestyle. Think you have issues with dairy, gluten, etc.? Experiment with eliminating it – see how your body responds. Wondering what kind of cardio/strength training combination works best for you? Experiment – find a program or trainer and just start….see what happens and make adjustments as necessary. We are all unique individuals and will, therefore, have our own individual paths and approaches to fitness and health that work. But, you’ll never know if you don’t JUST START! Start educating yourself about health, wellness, and fitness. Choose a program/plan put together by trainers/professionals you can trust and have the experience and results to back up any claims made…..and when you find something that works….stick with it! What will happen then? Transformation.
Change is change…big or small, transformations happen.
If you’ve spent any time on the HitchFit website looking through the transformations, you’ll see all kinds of changes taking place – some of them being enormous shifts in body composition. While my numbers aren’t “big” comparatively, in the end this whole thing was about me working on me, right? And, I can tell you that for me, this transformation has been huge.
My goals going into my HitchFit program were to 1) become more physically fit, stronger, able to successfully do non-modified push-ups, for example 2) go through the leaning process (having never done anything like that before) and 3) take myself to another level physically.
Did I reach these goals, YES!
So, what am I taking with me as I finish my program?
1) I’m much more engaged in the grocery shopping process – and enjoy, yes enjoy going to the grocery story. I also do recipe searches and am in the kitchen more. Trust me, this is a new…and welcome, development.
2) I realize I can live without so much dressing, sauces, etc. J
3) I recognize that my fitness, health, and wellness will always be a work in progress, so as both Micah and Diana both say…..I practice patience and that has become my friend. Steady and consistent effort is my plan.
4) I love the feeling of really pushing my muscles, body and mind to perform – maybe not in the moment (smile), but the after effects of lifting weights and interval training are priceless. And let’s be honest, I really like seeing muscle definition where there was none before.
5) I love to sweat and plan to do it often and much.
6) I recognize the difference between how healthy food choices feel vs. poor ones.
7) Last but not least – I’m taking away a recharged and refocused lifestyle that will not only impact my life on many levels, but also that of my family and the lives of my patients.
My sincerest thanks to Diana and Micah for all the support, effort and love they put into HitchFit. It has been a great experience and life changing 12 weeks for me! ”
