Gardening For Fitness

Meet Your Fitness Goals By Gardening!
Summer means all kinds of fruits and vegetable plants are in full bloom! Instead of dreading that weed-pulling or harvesting task, make it work for you!

Sweating It Out

That heat – in appropriate amounts, mind you – can help you sweat out all those toxins and water weight chilling in your body. In addition, moderate amounts of that beautiful sunshine contribute significantly to your body’s ability to create Vitamin D. And, that Vitamin D is essential for helping your body absorb nutrients properly, so that you can maintain that healthy and fit body you’re working on. Let the sun rays soak into your skin, and soak up those vitamins, too!

Stretching

It may not seem like it, but pulling weeds is actually great for stretching the body’s muscles. As you lean over to put those few stray weeds a few rows in, you are lengthening your calf muscles as you bend. Additionally, your arms are stretching to grab each annoying plant that doesn’t belong in your bed of vegetables. Fitness made easy – just step into your backyard!

Strengthen Muscles

Crouching down in a squat position over and over for long periods of time is the perfect workout! Bet you didn’t even put that together, did you? Just make sure you keep your back straight as you squat down and lean forward to clear the garden of all those nutrient-sucking weeds. Also, keep your butt down, not out. This will ensure you get a really great muscle burn in all the right places, and not a low-back ache instead.

Relieve Stress

Stress relief is good not only for your body mentally, but physically as well. The feeling of accomplishment after you’ve weeded the entire garden does a mind good. We all know that stress can negatively impact our health and fitness. By relieving stress outside with the greenery, you are actively helping your fitness routine, and your overall health.
