Where do you live?

What are your athletic achievements and competition history?

I’ve been athletic pretty much all my life.  It started in grade school with swim team and softball and playing outside pretty much every moment I could.  I was the point guard on our high school basketball team…so at an early age, I enjoyed competition.  In the early 90s, I saw a woman with a physique like I’d never seen before while watching a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie.  Cory Everson!  I wanted to look like her!  I began working out in the gym and lifting weights immediately in hopes achieving a physique like Cory’s.  I participated in my first contest in 2006.  It was a nice, healthy diversion while in the process of ending a negative relationship.  I was hooked and have participated in at least one competition per year since then.  My main goal each contest is to improve my condition and learn from previous diet and training mistakes.

What or who inspires you to compete?

I use figure competitions a dangling carrot that keeps me focused on my fitness goals.  After the first few contests, I mellowed out at the actual event a bit and learned to have fun and enjoy the fruits of my labor.  The competitions also inspire me to be the best role model I can to my daughter and other women (and some men) I come into contact with.

What excites you most about competing with the WBFF?

I’ve only competed with one other physique committee and I’m looking forward to a new experience with the WBFF.  WBFF shows look like so much fun and everyone appears to have such a wonderful time with lasting friendships.  I’m super excited to get there!

What are your future goals?

Currently my goals are to continue on the path of physical fitness and improving my condition show to show.  I’m open to pretty much whatever direction competing takes me in.  Many people ask if I’ve ever thought about becoming a trainer and lately, the concept is beginning to appeal to me.  I’d love to learn as much as I can so I can share with others and continue to be the role model that I want to be for my daughter and others.

What obstacles have you overcome to achieve your goals (what’s your story?)

The obstacle I have to overcome currently is finding the time to get everything in.  As a single mom to a pre-teen who has become quite involved in her own physical activities that require training, time, travel and financial resources, I have to remain flexible but committed to my own goals.

Anyone you would like to thank who has been a part of your fitness journey?

First and foremost, I thank my daughter, Juliette, for her patience and understanding of my love for fitness and the accountability she provides.  Also, teachable moments abound with her current physical fitness journey, so I’m always reminded to be a good role model not only in terms of how I treat my body, but also how I manage situations.  Children are always watching and modeling themselves after their parents.  Secondly, I thank Diana Chaloux for her encouragement, her sweet but honesty disposition and her keen ability to read between the lines.  She truly is an inspiration and a gift.
