Willpower is something that many people strive to obtain, but seem to fall short. What exactly does it take to maintain this elusive trait? Katie Morton’s soon-to-be-published book explains just how to obtain and keep willpower. Here, we share just a few:
- Know and declare what you want!
This is clearly the first step in pursuing willpower. If you don’t know what you want, how can you maintain a steady march toward it? Set personal goals, on our own or with the help of your Hitch Fit personal trainers, and write them down clearly. - Believe
Your own personal belief in yourself will pave the way for sheer willpower later on down the road. While you cannot determine the outcome of everything in your life, you can determine how you will approach and handle each and every step of your goals. You are able to accomplish so much more than you think – start believing it! - Responsibility is yours
Actions and reactions are all your own responsibility. Instead of blaming the “universe”, “circumstances” or “my body”, take some personal responsibility and get back on track. Those with the greatest amounts of willpower acknowledge that they alone are responsible for their actions. Make sure you are doing the same. - Be ready for the results – and consequences
Most individuals whom embark on an adventure aren’t ready for the end result. Be prepared to accept the stumbles, the results of inaccurate decisions, and even the joyous rewards of each decision you make along the way. Extraordinary willpower comes with ability to accept whatever discomfort may come in the process of reaching their ultimate goal. - Don’t let jealousy ruin your view
Despite your intense desire for success in weight loss or fitness, don’t stare down your successful neighbor or friend simply because they are more visibly reaching their goals. Instead, look at them as examples of your future aspirations. Be objective in your judgments, and look up to them for their achievements. They’ve worked very hard to get where they are, and so are you!
These are just a few of the great ways to achieve willpower, but these few are simply inspiring! Take a good, long look in the mirror, then get out some paper and measure out those goals you have. Whether it involves taking your nutrition to a new level, or simply committing to a workout every other day, it starts with clearly defining.
