Magen and her husband Ken on a recent vacation!

I am so proud of today’s transformation Magen! When this little lady first wrote to me, she was caught up in a cycle of turning to fad diets for quick scale loss, her poor body had gone through a lot, and she was taking phentermine regularly (which I’m so proud of her for getting off of this right away when she began!). We knew that we may face some challenges due to what her body had been through. Learning a healthy lifestyle, and thinking of the long term success rather than the short term, was new to her, but she was really ready for it!! She tackled her Hitch Fit Lose Weight Feel Great program head on, she has embraced the lifestyle and is really living it day in day out now! Magen did an awesome job, she shed 18 pounds and 8% body fat for her first program, and I’m happy to report that she isn’t done yet!! She is in progress with a Bikini Model program, so you haven’t seen the last of her! Great job Magen!

Magen’s Story:

“So my story goes several years back. I was always a little on the heavy side as a kid but not to an unhealthy point. As I got older, probably around age 15 I started to feel uncomfortable with my body. Even at this point I wasn’t very concerned with the issue. I never worked out or tried to eat healthy. I grew up in a family that loved to eat. If there was a holiday, church event, or anything worth celebrating there was going to be ample amount of food. Some of my favorites were man’n’cheese, any form of potato, and fried chicken tenders. I remember anytime I was asked what I wanted to eat it was always chicken tenders and French-fries! As I got older, I started to become more self-conscious. I was definitely an emotional eater because although I was sad and frustrated with my body, I would just eat to try to make myself feel better. It didn’t help that most of the females in my family were thin and I was the “Big Girl.” For the next few years I continued to make excuses for myself and never did anything about my weight. I was a very lazy teenager, I didn’t play sports, I didn’t go to the gym, and if it was going to involve me getting sweaty I didn’t do it!

Let’s fast forward to when I met Ken (my boyfriend then, now my husband.) At this point I was so unhappy with myself but I had found this guy that loved me for me and my weight didn’t matter to him, so it didn’t matter to me either! After being together for a while, I started to question why such an amazingly good-looking fit guy would want to be with a girl like me. I knew if I was questioning it, so were his friends! After dating for several months, we both joined a new gym that had just opened. We started going together but I still wasn’t taking it seriously, I was just there to be with him! In March of 2009, we broke up and I went off to college that fall. This is when my weight spiraled out of control. My roommate and I would have McDonalds and ice cream several times a week. By the time I left college in October of 2010 I weighted a whopping 172 lbs. Keep in mind I am barely 5’2 so that was a lot of weight for my short body.

Ken and I got back together in 2010 and he still loved me, all 172 lbs of me! We got engaged in September 2011. After I saw our pictures from the proposal, I knew I had to do something before the wedding. I immediately joined weight watchers and it worked like a charm. I lost 20 lbs in about 4 months but I was constantly starving! Weight watchers is a great program if you are looking for a quick fix but you can’t sustain a life like that. After a year of marriage, I had gained every pound back! Weight watchers promotes that you can eat whatever you want “so long as it’s in your points.” So I lived off BLT’s loaded with mayo and French fries.

Right after our 1 year anniversary I went to my husband very unhappy about my weight and for the first time he told me to stop making excuse and just do something about it. This honestly shocked me but its what I needed to hear. I weighed about 169 lbs at this time. I had heard some of my friends were taking Phentermine and they had a lot of success using it. So what did I do. I ran to the next easy fix, taking a pill expecting it to fix all my problems. It was great at first and I was dropping weight fast, but then it started making me feel terrible. My heart was racing, I couldn’t breathe, my mood swings were off the charts, and it was affecting our marriage. But even through all that, I continued to take it for about a year because it was working.

In February 2014, I was about 156 lbs and still wasn’t happy. I frantically started searching for the latest fad diet. I searched for “bikini model diet” and somehow ended up on the Hitch Fit website! This was the absolutely the best thing that could have happened. I was very skeptical at first because the transformations were so amazing. After reading just about every transformation story, I immediately emailed Micah and Diana. I was so happy with their quick response, even while she was on vacation! I told Diana about my struggles and that I was taking phentermine. She was so encouraging and gave me hope that I could achieve whatever goals I set for myself. I was so excited to get my plan and get started right away. I started on Valentine ’s Day! I did this to prove to myself that I had the will power to stay away from chocolates and candies. I didn’t even have one piece, haha!

This journey has been the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, but the most rewarding thing I have ever done for myself. I always made excuses for why I couldn’t lose the weight but with Diana’s help and this plan, I had no excuses. I would be lying if I said it was easy and I would be lying if I said I never cheated. I had my good days and my bad days, even bad weeks. Getting in the gym 6 days a week and eating healthy and balanced was a foreign concept to me. This has truly been life altering and I couldn’t imagine my life now without the gym and clean eating!

The hardest part for me was getting started. I had to learn how to wake up early, prepare my meals ahead of time, learn to read food labels, and portion my food correctly. After a few weeks, I got the routine down and it got much easier. I always reminded myself of the little saying “fail to prepare…prepare to fail.” Food prep plays such a vital role in this process, so you can’t just spend all your time in the gym. If you are not preparing in the kitchen, you will not get very far in the gym! The workouts were a kick in the booty. Lifting weights was something I had never done, it wasn’t easy but now I cant imagine my life without lifting weights. I think my favorite part about lifting weights was seeing how fast my body changed and seeing definition in places I had never seen muscle before! The cardio was intense for me. I am not a huge fan of running so I had to get creative with my cardio. I used the elliptical, arc trainer, and even some home videos to make sure I hit my goal for the day. I even would run the stairs on my lunch break at work, every calorie counts when you have a goal to meet!

I am so happy with my results and where I am today. This process has taught me so many things about my body. I have learned that you can’t out run a bad diet, nutrition is the most important aspect in transformation. I have learned how to lift weights properly and to not be afraid to lift amongst all the guys in the gym. Although I am so excited with where I am today, I plan to continue this process and am currently doing the bikini model program! So stay tuned!

I want to say thank you to my husband who held my hand and stood by my side through this entire journey. I want to thank him for telling me no when I really wanted to cheat and thank you for staying up late with me on those nights I was trying to burn the last few calories to meet my goal. You are my biggest fan and I couldn’t have done this without all of your love and support!

I also want to thank my friends and family for being so sweet and encouraging the whole way through. Also big thanks to my cousin Morgan for being my gym buddy and never missing a workout. I couldn’t have done it without you girl!

Last but not least a huge thank you to Micah and Diana, and the entire Hitch Fit family. Diana is such an amazing coach! I can’t thank you enough for your quick responses and encouraging words and advice. You and Micah are truly a blessing in my life! And to the entire Hitch Fit family thank you for being so sweet and encouraging when I was feeling a little discouraged! Y’all are awesome! ”
