Hypnotized by Hype
Top 5 Mistakes Dieters Make
Mistake #3 – HYPNOTIZED BY HYPE

On a daily basis we are inundated with hype about weight loss. Television, internet, magazines, everywhere you turn there is someone claiming to have lost weight using this or that workout, this or that exercise contraption, this or that diet, this or that pill. It’s easy to get so hypnotized by the amazing success stories, that you miss out on reading the pesky little fine print. Often what it says is “Results not Typical,” or for an exercise contraption it may say in fine print that results were achieved along with diet and exercise plan.
Say what? It doesn’t make sense! The ad is telling you that you can lose 20 pounds in a week and get sexy sculpted abs just by using a silly little machine for 3 minutes a day! Or that you can eat everything that you want and not make any lifestyle changes and voila, 30 pounds gone!
Sorry to burst your bubble, but outrageous claims and schemes are the norm in the fitness industry. The truth is that transformation is rarely easy, because it means making behavioral changes. If you want change in your body and your health, it means you’re going to have to do something different than what you’re doing now. If you want that change to be sustainable, it means you’re going to have to consistently do that different thing for the rest of your life. I know. The truth is boring. Most people don’t want to hear the truth, they want to hear the hype. So they buy in, they try quick fix after quick fix, and meet with frustration after frustration. We’ve got to stop the madness!
It’s not uncommon for weight loss companies to hire actors for their testimonials, to pay someone to use their before and after pictures and/or story, even when that person didn’t actually use their product or service. A fitness model with a great six pack may be hired for an ab contraption and make claims that that was all it took. In fact, it took an incredible amount of dedication and discipline with nutrition and training to achieve a visual six pack (trust me, it’s not an easy thing!) If it were that easy, wouldn’t everyone be walking around with phenomenal abdominals?
Don’t be fooled by hype. Being skeptical is a good thing in this industry. If something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.
What about Hitch Fit Success Stories? Are they just Hype?
At Hitch Fit, we LOVE success stories. We THRIVE on success stories. The blessing of being able to have a positive impact on someone’s life, and often that person is someone we never get to meet in person, is priceless to us. We love it when our clients want to share their stories. Not all of them do, and we always respect the wishes and privacy of clients who choose not to share. But we do encourage it. The reason being that every person’s story will affect someone. There is someone out there in the exact same starting position, with the exact same goals, who will see that story and realize that they are capable of change.
We have hundreds of success stories on the Hitch Fit site. Every single one of those people are clients that we have personally worked with, either online or in person. Any transformation that we have shared on Hitch Fit since 2011 is an online training client, someone that we never met with to train one on one. These are real people, with all different types of goals, all different life obstacles. These are busy people, they have jobs, families and a multitude of responsibilities. These are people of all different ages, sizes and fitness levels. But every single one of them has one thing in common. They all decided that they wanted to commit to changing their eating and exercise habits, they all believed in their ability to succeed, and they all DID it.
Not a single person on the Hitch Fit site has been forced to share their story, and we’ve never paid anyone to share their testimonial. These are not actors, and we don’t touch up pictures. We aren’t here to show something that’s unattainable, we are here to share the stories of people who have attained their goals. The goal is always to be the best version of YOU, not to be anyone else. Everybody is a little different, and that’s a beautiful thing! We encourage our clients to be real and honest in their testimonials. Not to just share the good stuff, but to share the tough stuff. To let people know what it is really like when you go through the transformation process. It’s that real, relatable stuff that is going to help someone else reach a mindset of being ready to do it for themselves.
Yes, we’ve got some amazing stories at Hitch Fit. But you don’t have to worry about being hypnotized by hype, you’re not missing any fine print because there isn’t any. Real people. Real results. Check out hundreds of Hitch Fit success stories here: https://hitchfit.com/blog/success-stories/
Bottom Line: Be aware of marketing and media hype. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Read the fine print. Don’t be bored by the truth. Embrace it. Because even though true transformation isn’t easy, it can be one of the most empowering and life changing experiences you will undertake.
A Note On Supplements
Speaking of legitimate supplement companies, the only one that Hitch Fit recommends is Magnum Nutraceuticals. It took us 6 years to form a partnership with a supplement company because of how much deception there is in the industry. Why Magnum? They are a brand based on truth and integrity, just like Hitch Fit. We personally know owner Markus Kaulius and have seen him build his brand in much the same way as we have built Hitch Fit. These are pharmaceutical grade products. They are the only ones that we use ourselves. Let us be clear that they are SUPPLEMENTAL to healthy eating and exercise. Even the highest quality supplement will do nothing for you if those things aren’t in alignment! We also independently test Magnum products as an extra measure. You can check out more information on the Magnum supplements that Hitch Fit recommends at this link:
