How To Set Your Mind On Fitness
For many of us, finding the energy to work out is just too much! But, it really doesn’t take the kind of energy you think to be fit. Whether you have a gym membership or not, there are opportunities for you to engage in fitness all around you!
But, Why?
“I don’t need to be a size 2,” “I am comfortable with my body,” and “I have plenty of energy, I don’t need to work out,” are just a few of the excuses we hear every day for not participating in an active lifestyle. While being a size 2 in no way indicates a level of fitness, it can certainly show that a specific individual takes care of their body. There are, however, many ways to take care of your body. Being fit isn’t about striving for a shape – it’s about striving to be healthy.
To Be Healthy
What we take in and how we expend our energy play a large role in our overall health, and by extension, our overall happiness. You’ve heard the phrase – “Working out gives me energy.” Well, we think so, too! An individual that strives to be fit is an individual that cares about their body’s health and their overall happiness. As a healthy individual, you will strive to ensure you are taking in the proper nutrients, strengthening your muscles, and sharpening your mind. Fruits and vegetables, weight lifting, and crossword puzzles are just a few ways to accomplish all of those things!
Many cultures have the same idea, and combine all of these ways into one all-encompassing sport. Martial Arts, a popular sport for young boys to participate in, is one such activity. This sport started out as an endeavor to keep the mind focused, the body strong, and the spirit alive. These things help individuals maintain a positive outlook on life, allow their bodies to gain the strength needed to accomplish daily tasks, and focus the mind well enough to react appropriately in any situation. While you certainly don’t need to change your entire lifestyle to be healthy, we take a few clues from the martial arts.
So, let’s start developing that fitness mindset!
The Only Rule
There really is only one rule to developing a positive fitness mindset – just move! Getting up off your chair or couch is the first step to living an active life. Walk outside for 20 minutes, or climb up and down your staircase 20 times. No matter what activity you choose, it will be incredibly effective in your pursuit of fitness.
Choose to Move in Ways That Excite You
If you hate running, don’t start out your fitness goals with the pursuit of a 5k. It’s not going to stick, and you are going to be miserable. The point is to be healthy – mind and body. Pick a sport, or a leisurely stroll. Ride your bike along a beach trail, or join in a community game of volleyball at your local gym. There are so many ways to get up and get moving, and you will be far more likely to keep up that activity if you enjoy it.
