Personal Pedestal
What is your ultimate health and fitness goal? Not simple goals such as “I want to walk on my treadmill every day,” but your giant whale of a goal? Think about that seemingly impossible dream up there on a spotlighted pedestal. That’s a pretty gorgeous looking goal, isn’t it?
It’s within your grasp. All you have to do is take it off that pedestal, and bring it down to your level! With a little bit of perspective, and a lot of hard work, you can make that fitness pedestal a personal reality.
You Can’t Do It Alone
Taking a goal down from the pedestal not only brings it down to an achievable level, but also puts you on the same level as others around you. Fitness goals are not easy to accomplish! And they are nearly impossible to tackle alone. The people that help you with these goals can come from a myriad of sources, and help in completely unexpected ways.
- Encouragers: Whether it’s a friend, spouse, or your mom, we all need encouragement as we trudge along our path of happy, healthy living.
- Trainers: Utilize the knowledge of a friend that has the “fitness thing” down, or enlist the help of an online personal trainer. There are many options to help you in your fitness training – nutrition guidance, workout ideas, daily inspiration, accountability, etc.
- Fitness Buddy: Find a partner to help you stay committed to your workout! If you’ve been going to your gym for awhile and enjoyed light conversation with a few acquaintances, consider approaching them about working out together on a regular basis. Or, grab a friend and keep each other motivated.
It’s A Daily Choice
When you begin a serious goal pursuit, you must daily choose to strive for it. Each day is an entirely new ballpark, and you will feel vastly different from one day to the next. Start out each day reminding yourself of your personal finish line. Every time you eat is a new challenge; will you choose healthy options, or splurge on unhealthy options? Every free hour will become a pro/con list – work out, or watch tv?
Make sure the individuals you have surrounding you are supportive of your goal. Don’t allow negativity to seep in just because they may have valuable knowledge. If someone isn’t on your side of the fence, they should be distanced, at least until you reach your finish line. Their pedestal goal may not be in the same vein as yours, so make sure you choose a community of individuals who will either share your goal, or, at the very least, support it.
