Using fitness to fight depression

Teddys Story

During my senior year of high school I came down with serious depression and anxiety. I struggled with wondering if my life had any worth and there were multiple times I wanted to commit suicide.

My medication caused an increase in my appetite and “I gained over 100 pounds during my freshman year of college”. I was able to take off some of the weight during the summer going into my sophomore year but it wasn’t nearly enough.

Weight Loss Plan That Works

Fast forward to a year ago and I was able to land an internship at the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. During that summer, I spoke with my stepmom and told her I wanted to lose weight. She had connections with Micah LaCerte and Diana LaCerte Of Hitch Fit and we were acquainted.

Over the course of a month I worked with Micah in person.  He helped motivate and educate me then I went back to school and then I started the Hitch Fit Online Weight Loss Plus Plan to engage the program with an iron will. This did involve sacrifice, as I wasn’t able to eat out with friends unless we went to very specific places. That was rare. Most weeks I would meal prep twice a week and this helped me save money on food because the food I was eating would still be semi-fresh. I wasn’t able to work out every day because of school but I went when time presented itself.

BEAT DEPRESSION

There were weeks when I was frustrated and wanted nothing more than to splurge, but my mentality shifted from “not allowing myself to do something” to “choosing what would bring me the most joy in the long run.” I had lots of support from my community and people began to notice the progress. The coolest but also the most frustrating moments were when my jeans and shirts became baggy and my mom and I would have to get new clothes. When I got these, the progress really showed and it only encouraged me.
I went five months without a single splurge, unless you count a bit of wine on my 21st birthday, and eating the healthier foods on thanksgiving. I actually had my mom cook me a chicken breast and broccoli for thanksgiving and ate the healthier foods with my dad’s family. At Thanksgiving I was 5 pounds from my goal of that gives you an idea on how determined I was to finish this. The week after Thanksgiving, I stepped on the scale and immediately called my roommate to tell him I had reached my goal.  Since then I’ve maintained my weight and have been building muscle.

BENEFITS OF FITNESS

Is Your Goal To Lose Weight? Then it’s important to look at what you’re pursuing, not what your giving up. Confidence, health, and accomplishment far outweighs a moment of culinary pleasure. If you can allow yourself to have the attitude that you are sacrificing for something better in the future, your will becomes nearly unbreakable.

If I had to give anyone advice about weight loss or any other leaps in life, it’s that the first thing you have to examine is your mind. The reason I wanted to lose weight was because I wanted to be comfortable with myself again. I knew that my weight was a barrier to me feeling content. If anyone is going to make positive change they have to realize that their life matters. Everyone has potential and everyone’s life is precious.   The only thing standing in the way of a person being healthy is their mind telling them they can’t do it. It’s a lie. It might be difficult at first, but the greatest rewards come when we work hard for the things we care about. Overcome Depression with Fitness Just Like I Did.
