*Where do you live?
I live in Kansas City
*What are your athletic achievements and competition history?
Growing up in New Zealand, participation in sport at a young age is very much encouraged by schools and parents. During my youth years and college days I actively participated in soccer, rugby, indoor and outdoor cricket. I played social levels at all these sports. I took cricket to the next step playing at a competitive premier level during my senior years at high school. I played along side players who later went onto represent the national team. During all of my years playing sport, I never really took the gym seriously. I believe that was because I never pushed myself to excel higher than a social level. My philosophy of playing social sports meant just that – social. Therefore because I never knew what I was doing in the gym, I never saw results. I always had an excuse, which led me to have no desire to learn.
*What or who inspires you to compete?
For me there is no one person who inspires me to compete. In the past I looked at magazine covers and mentally made every excuse for myself not to look good like the people pictured in the magazines. So the answer for me is not who inspires me, but what inspires me. As I have achieved my weight loss goals, (Hitchfit transformation in progress), I can visually see the results from the changes in my body. My inspiration has come from self-motivation from seeing positive changes. I have put the excuses aside, and now the results have changed my attitude to take fitness to new levels.
*What excites you most about competing with the WBFF?
As a first time competitor, I am not only excited about participating in a WBFF competition, but also the fact that I am competing. To combine my first competition with an elite organization will be amazing. The WBFF provides its athletes with opportunities that no other competing organization does by promoting all its athletes to different supplement companies and magazines. The WBFF provides its competitors with the chance to fulfill dreams of magazine shoots by not only rewarding the winners, but by providing the exposure to all participants.
*What are your future goals?
I consider myself new to health, diet and fitness. I am eager to continue learning and growing. Therefore I will be leaning on the expertise of my trainer Tina Quarles and the Hitchfit team. I am looking to establish a healthy non-competition weight by both diet and a continued weight and cardio program. I am looking to start building muscle once we have established a healthy off season program.
*What obstacles have you overcome to achieve your goals (what’s your story?)
My life changed in the early fall of 2008. I was living what I thought was the perfect life. Steaks, BBQ and a case of beer frequently entered my appetite. I rocketed to over 250lbs and didn’t seem to care. I had every excuse and when it came to viewing fitness magazines. I just passed them by at the counter. Infact, I hardly would let anyone take a picture of me as I knew people would not want to look at me. The question to myself was, why would people want to look at me because I don’t want to look at myself.
Then one day reality set in. After a stern wake up call from my wife about not being around to see my children’s birthdays, I set out on a journey. I joined a gym. Not knowing what I was doing, I quickly started watching other members and soon befriended people. I found a positive attitude and most people I approached were happy to offer advice. At this time I started talking to a friend Cisco Guerra. Cisco had me come up to his gym and got me set up on diet, exercise and boxing once a week. He provided support and motivation and soon results started to happen. After a year, I lost over 60lbs, just from eating better and working out 5 -6 days a week.
I stayed focused at the gym for the following year, but slowly my diet changed. I wasn’t as careful monitoring what I was eating, so I slowly packed on a few pounds. Then at the end of 2010, my wife suggested Hitch fit. Micah had been referred to us by Cisco a couple years back but nothing transpired. It was at this time that Micah referred me to Tina Quarles. My initial goal by training with Tina was to lose some weight and provide support to my wife Susan who was considering competing. I thought I would be the supportive husband and follow her diet to help her prepare. After weighing in at 215lbs and over 30% body fat, Tina soon pushed me to limits I had never pushed myself too before. The results blew me away. Within weeks I started dropping weight and seeing body fat fall. I could see muscles I never new I had. The self motivation this created, and the positive feedback from both Tina and my wife is why I am here today. As Tina challenged me to take my workouts to higher levels, my goals changed. Not only am I completing a lifestyle transformation, but also I have a desire to compete. Since Christmas 2010, I have dropped to 164lbs and lost over 20% body fat. Not only has Tina transformed me, but she has prepared me for this competition.
*How can people find out more about you?

*Anyone you would like to thank who has been a part of your fitness journey?
I would like to thank the support of my family particularly my wife and fellow competitor Susan. I also would like to mention my children. I feel bad about the time spent preparing for this show, and not spending as much time with you as we would both like. I hope that you will one day understand. I need to thank Cisco Guerra for getting me started in a positive direction and referring me to Micah Lacerte, Hitch fit and his team. Finally, a huge thank you to my trainer Tina Quarles. You pushed me to new levels and higher limits. You are the best. I hope you will be part of the next phase and push me even further.
