Elizabeth’s Story:
“My story starts with me searching. I had been working out on a regular basis, taking fitness classes, doing cardio, playing tennis and running road races with my friends. I felt healthy, but was always slowing gaining weight, and not improving my fitness goals. I was stagnant.
I had started running a year earlier and loved the sport, but found I was not getting any better. All my times would stay within a minute or two of where I started. I kept at it, but was beginning to lose interest & motivation because I could not break this cycle. I knew I was missing something, but had no idea what the big secret to improving was.
It was summer time and my kids and I would spend long days at the pool & playing tennis and pig out when we got home. My husband travels all week so it is just me and my two boys during the week and we were beginning to get into some bad summer habits of eating out every day and staying up too late. Great fun at the time, but terrible for my fitness and weight goals.
Over the past few years I had tried different diets but always found that I was not able to exercise and train for my races while dieting because I had no energy, no endurance and little did I know at the time, I was losing muscle steadily while crash dieting. This was why.
So, at the time, I would stop endurance exercising, and diet and lose 10 pounds, then start exercising again, and be starving! So I would eat! I thought well, I have been exercising, I can have pizza again. My times were not improving, my stamina in classes was not improving, and slowly I felt like I was the biggest person there and didn’t want to come anymore. I couldn’t figure out how to break this cycle. I wanted to train AND eat right but I didn’t think it was possible, I told others it wasn’t, I had given up.
Over that summer I had watched some friends of mine (Amy & James Steinbeck) lose a lot of weight and talk about how they were working out at the same time and their results were amazing! They gave HitchFit all the credit. I remember the first time I looked at the website and thought, “Oh that isn’t for me, I can do this on my own.” But I wasn’t, and I couldn’t, or I would have! I saw others figure out the balance between fitness and dieting, others were getting it right, why couldn’t I? I was very frustrated and felt like I was gaining summer weight like crazy!
I saw Amy & James eating regular food and doing great, they looked amazing. So I looked up the website one more time. I remember thinking, “but it’s summer, am I really ready to work that hard?” So I emailed Micah. Basically, along with answers to my questions, he flat out said, when you are ready to commit 100% and work very hard, we will be here for you. So I waited and thought about it for another week and in a fit of frustration over my fleeting fitness goals and increasing summer weight. I knew I had to break the cycle, I texted my husband right then & said, “I’m going to sign up for Hitch Fit.” He texted back and said, “I will support you in that.” So I did, I was now ready to commit myself. The support from my husband was wonderful; he was encouraging and positive the whole way through.
The first few weeks were rough, it was hard to get into a routine of all the eating and cleaning up after the cooking and eating. But I found a pattern and Diana helped me, too. I love the strength training; I hadn’t done this since college I could see improvements right away, this kept me going.
After the first 2 weeks, there was such a huge difference in my energy levels I got up every morning and did my cardio before the boys woke up and did my strength training later during the day. I followed the plan exactly as written. 2 weeks in, my Father in law passed away and I had to go out of town for a week. During this tough time, I packed my cooler before I left home with 4 days worth of chicken and other items and shopped more when I got there. I followed my plan and didn’t cheat, it was hard and inconvenient at times, but I made it a priority. My husband supported me all the way. The next week I had a conference out of town and since I was driving to the meetings, 6 hours away, I again, packed a cooler with 4 days worth of chicken portioned out into Tupperware, along with brown rice, snacks, etc… and stayed the plan. I did miss calculate and came up one day short and had to do the best I could on conference food. I brought a lunch tote with me to the meetings each morning, for the day. Not easy, not fun, but I kept my eyes on my goals. I used the hotel workout center and there were others there doing the same thing. I wasn’t alone. I kept emailing Diana, and her encouragement was what kept me going during these tough weeks of planning ahead and not eating what everyone else was eating during fun times. But I did it! I looked forward to sharing my progress with her weekly and to her tips for the next week. But anytime I emailed during the week with questions on procedures, she always helped direct me to the answers. This was key, I had to figure out how to live this lifestyle in the content of MY life and activities. Once I did, the rest followed.
The weight was beginning to fall off and my body was changing shape and I was running races and had improved my 5k time by 10 minutes! 10 minutes! I had thought this was impossible, but it wasn’t, & I did it. I had more energy & my family was starting run races with me, even my dad joined us one cold morning for a race in town. I was so proud, people were noticing my changes and it all felt worth it. They asked how I was doing it, and I told them a lot of hard work, and HitchFit. Diana helped me see how I could substitute proteins and carbs on my plan and maintain this weight for life with the exercise habits I was obtaining. Even my skin was clearing up from all the sweating, and I was feeling better about myself and feeling better that I had in years. I love this feeling. I was telling everyone about HitchFit and all the joys and benefits the program was bringing me. I look forward now to my workouts and cardio is second nature, who would have ever thought??
About half way through my transformation, my husband was so excited about my changes that he bought us home gym equipment and dumbbell sets and set them up for us and he has started working out too! We eat healthy and talk fitness together; it’s been great to live this way as a family. My boys joke around with me but have noticed such a difference in my attitude towards life and happiness, I have eliminated the negatives and I am a happy person. My family is happy and HitchFit was the “secret” key I was missing. Diana was so amazing, her support was wonderful. I even got to meet her in person at the end. She is such a genuine person and is a testament to clean eating and hard work. I mentioned I was a little sad it was over, but she responded that “it’s never over!” and I believe her, that is how I feel, too. Thank you for everything….”
