I’m so thrilled to share today’s transformation, Amelia, with you!! This is a little lady that I’ve had the pleasure of knowing for a long time, she is the sister of one of my dearest college friends, Tekla, and I was so excited when she decided that she wanted to take her fitness to another level! Amelia has always been very active and is a dancer and dance instructor, and though not overweight, she noticed a gradual weight gain over time that she was unhappy with and determined to reverse that trend! She committed to a 12 Week Lose Weight Feel Great program, made changes to her eating and her training and completely changed the look of her physique! Amelia shed 16 pounds 13.8% body fat over the course of her transformation, she did an incredible job and I’m so proud of her! After photos by Tekla Frats www.teklaphoto.com

Amelia’s Story:

“Growing up I was from a fairly active family who ate appropriate portions of appropriate foods.  Going for fast food was a “treat” few and far between.  Although there was “junk food” in the house, it was consumed mostly by friends coming over after school, I preferred apples and peanut butter for a snack.  I played field hockey, tennis, and was a cheerleader.  Plus I danced a couple hours a week.

I went to college and graduated with a degree in Dance Performance.  We had a graduation weight. (Mine was 101 lbs.) It was not insulting. They wanted us healthy, not over weight, not underweight. They were making us employable as a dancer.

And employable I was, all through my 20’s I worked as a performer on Cruise Ships, traveled with tours, danced in a show in TN, and worked in both NYC and LA backstage on shows. I was even a guest entertainer as a Magician’s Assistant on a Cruise Ship!  All jobs that required me to wear tiny little costumes and stay and be fit!

My “jobs” required me to go to the gym.  I would go a few times a week, run for ½ an hr, do a few things with free weights and maintained my physic. For a long time I could have pizza and a beer and not gain weight.  But as I started to get older, I started to notice a pound here or a pound there adding to my body.  My college meal plan of peanut butter sandwiches, mac and cheese, pizza, and pasta were slowly creeping up on me.  Plus once I did a job that didn’t require me to “look” good, I went to the gym less and I enjoyed a glass of wine with friends, a beer with friends, etc…

Fast forward to this past summer. I am now 35, happily married to a wonderful South African man I met on ships. We moved to the area I grew up in NH. I teach dance at my mother’s local Dance Studio and I found a 2nd job I love as a co-host for a morning radio show on 105.5 JYY!  I work a LOT and have pups that keep me busy and yet it hit me one day this summer, after my family and I went for a filming of “Family Feud”… I am not as healthy as I could be. I’m not eating well or really working out… but I should be and I have to just do it! I’m ready!  Ready for Hitchfit that is.

I knew of Hitchfit because Diana is one of my sister’s best friends from college.  Years ago, I remember my sister, Tekla, telling me her fun college friend Diana had become a body builder. I was impressed, but was not interested in bodybuilding so didn’t think much more about it.

But, when I started to think about getting myself back in shape I would look at their website. It seemed most people ended up competing or something, so again I pushed the idea aside. I didn’t plan to do that.  Then recently I was talking to my sister and she mentioned her two other college friends, Sarah and Heather did the program.  Now these are people I knew, people just wanting to get a healthier life. That was my final inspiration.

Since my college graduation weight of 101 lbs at age 23… I had gone up to 111 lbs. age 35.  For my 5 foot stature, that shows up.  I started to think, “it’s only a pound a year, that’s what happens when you get older. But wait, so that means in another 10 years I’ll be  another 10 lbs heavier?!…” So I contacted Diana! I was excited and nervous.  I live within my means and was worried I wouldn’t be able to “afford” it.  I was worried I would be hungry. I was worried I wouldn’t have time.  I was worried I would annoy my husband… etc…

Diana rocks!  It was overwhelming the day I got the paperwork. It did take some getting used to.  But I did have the time!  I can afford it! And if I was annoying my husband, he didn’t show it and was extremely supportive! Which was nice since the first thing I told him was I needed to throw out all the bad stuff in the house and that I will be food shopping solo for awhile. He helped me clean the kitchen and I got my own cabinet for my food.  He fixed up the basement so it was user friendly for my workouts and without realizing it gave me encouraging words whenever I was stressed.

So the journey began. Even when I was traveling or busy with work that took me away from home for a day or a week, I planned ahead and stayed on track!

I am rather disciplined, you give me a list of rules I follow them. And so I followed the Hitchfit rules. But the great thing was I felt like I was learning and understanding the what, why, and when of it all too!  It also fascinated me to notice how much unhealthy food is around us, socially. Everywhere we seemed to go there was food and people eating it just because… water parks, friend’s houses, concerts, etc…

The exercise was wild!  I already have to be at work at 5 am… so suddenly I was waking up at 3:50 am to get a half hr in before work! But! I felt so good after I actually enjoyed it.  And I had no idea you could kick your butt with free weights!  But my butt was kicked and I eventually loved it!  I have to admit I never had an “ah-ha” moment of loving running and thinking I wanted to do a marathon.  But what I did love is that it did get easier and the hills I couldn’t run up I eventually could, and I felt so great after I ran, it was all worth it!

When I got to the half way point, I noticed a positive difference in my body.  By then I was used to the food plan and actually enjoyed it!  But was thankful for the jello because I craved sweets when PMSing! My husband complimented how lean my arms and legs were looking. And for the first time in awhile I was feeling more confident about myself again.  I knew my tummy would be the last thing to go, but even it was looking better.  And… I had hit my old college graduation weight! So I continued forward.

I feel very lucky to be directly surrounded by supportive friends and family.  But was shocked at the number of random people who would say things like “how’s your diet?” As if eating the way we all should was a quick fix fad. Or “you’re already skinny why do you need to go on a diet?” as if we should wait to get super overweight before we do something about our health?!   My doctor was impressed when I explained all that I was eating and doing for exercise.  So I didn’t worry about the “nay” sayers.

I no longer was using “food” to be social or to reward myself. Instead of saying “I ran today I deserve a glass of wine”… I would occasionally reward myself with a cute top to work out in, knowing I did run today and the glass of wine wouldn’t be a positive choice for my goals!

When I started the last 4 weeks of the program my weight was hovering at one point and so were my measurements. I also felt a little more tired then I had. But! I had started my evening job teaching dance, so suddenly I was using more energy and fitting workouts into shorter amounts or time. And because of my schedule I was only getting 6 hrs of sleep, so I started to fit a 20 min. power nap in my afternoons if I felt I needed it.  The next week I was back on track.

Another positive aspect of the program was that a “Date” for me and my husband no longer consisted of eating and drinking, which had become the norm for awhile. We started to DO things! We learned to do Stand Up Paddle on the Lake, he brought me to a 9 hole golf course right near our house, we’d go for hikes… etc…  It was great!

Right near the end of the program, the episodes of “Family Feud” we filmed aired on National TV!  I looked fine, but was a little bummed out I hadn’t started the program before I went on TV, because I could have looked so much better!  But it was so amusing to watch that I didn’t really mind.

Amelia and her family on Family Feud right before starting her Hitch Fit transformation!

And suddenly I finished my 12 week program! My super photographer sister, Tekla, did a photo shoot with me on the last day. A nice treat I had been looking forward to!

I now don’t feel like eating well and working out is a chore… it’s now a part of my life and I love it! I also love how other family members and friends have been inspired to start eating better and working out too!  I hope one day they will be ready to go even further and be Hitchfit Healthy!

What Diana and Micah do for people is truly amazing because Hitchfit is not a get fit quick scam.  Hitchfit is a life style. They help us get in shape with hard work and help us understand how it’s happening. They also give us the tools so that we can continue to make it happen! I am SO thankful, amazed, and inspired by Hitchfit! Thank you Diana!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!”
