Losing Weight After Childhood Trauma

how to lose 50 pounds of fat

Losing weight after childhood trauma. It requires digging in deep and doing the HARD work of healing so that you can be healthy.

This is what Jessica determined to do.  Her dream of developing a healthy relationship with her body went much deeper than just wanting to look good in swimwear. Her goal is to finally reach a place where she is healthy mentally, emotionally, spiritually AND physically.

The weight she carried served as a mask, a way to protect herself from trauma she went through as a child. It was a way of coping and hiding from the pain.

But Jessica is brave. She dove into the long and intense process of mental and emotional healing with her psychoanalyst. Then, when she was ready, she reached out to Hitch Fit and coach Diana Chaloux – LaCerte for help with tackling her physical goals.

A note from Coach Diana:

Jessica, a professional counselor, came to me when she was ready to have a new relationship with her body. She was ready to love and care for it.

This journey was about more than just losing 50 pounds. That was the goal, but the meaning behind that goal is deeper than just wanting to look good on the outside.

This amazing woman went through heart breaking trauma in her childhood. The weight she had gained was a mask. Protection to hide herself. Her way of avoiding being “seen”. Losing weight after childhood trauma is a process. One she was ready to tackle.

I’m blessed that Jessica chose me to be her guide for this phase of her healing path. She was doing the work on the mental and emotional healing, and allowed me to be a part of the journey as she took control over the physical piece of the puzzle! What’s even more awesome is how she has inspired her daughter through this whole process too!

Jessica’s Transformation Story and Hitch Fit Review:

“I’ve been following Hitch Fit for about 6 years now, since 2014.

That year, I weighed 145 lbs and wanted to start the Bikini Model Plan in hopes to continue on with the Competition Prep Plan as I had been dreaming of competing for several years.

Looking at my weight only, it would have made sense to do it back then but I couldn’t. I was fighting a battle, not a battle with my weight, but a battle within.  I was stuck.

At the time I was in psychoanalysis, an intense form of psychotherapy, exploring these areas where I felt stuck.

I realized that I was gaining weight and keeping it on because of the trauma that I had experienced as a child.

I was afraid to lose weight and be seen.

I learned that being overweight helped me to hide but what took me a while to realize was that in doing so, it kept me from what I really desired in life.

Through the process it also taught me about the relationship I had with my body, that I was withholding and punishing myself.

I desired to have a new relationship with my body.

To love and care for my body, through eating healthy and exercising regularly.  This became my why.

As I worked through those areas, I felt more freedom to reach out to Diana and start a plan at Hitch Fit.

The battle within was beginning to subside.  I was both excited and nervous to reach out to her as she was someone I admired.

In reaching out, I shared with her that I had lost 20 lbs on my own and that I needed help to better my diet and to get into working out.

More importantly, I wanted to love and care for myself in a new way.

Getting healthy to inspire daughter

In our first meeting, I shared with her some of the trauma that I endured, what I had worked through, and why I wanted to start this journey.  We were both in tears.

I held onto the why throughout the journey.

It was tough and there were times that I did revert back to withholding and punishing myself.

When I felt discouraged or uncertain, I had Diana there to be with me in it, to encourage me and believe in me.  I also had to continue to work through the ambivalence I felt with losing weight and the fears of being seen.

I will forever be thankful to both Diana and my analyst, who helped me better understand myself, work through these areas, and push forward to making changes as I found more freedom to do so.

I’m excited to continue this growth, having a new relationship with my body and allowing myself to be seen.

I was chosen to be in a fashion show this summer and I have decided to compete this coming fall.  It’s truly been a transformational experience from the inside out.  I plan to continue to lean in as I take these next steps of being seen and loving myself.

As a professional counselor myself, I see so many people who struggle with their weight.

The problem often goes much deeper than their weight.

It’s important to look at what may be going on beneath the surface, to ask the questions about the fears, and to seek help in those areas where one feels stuck.

To ask.Why am I so anxious to lose weight?

What fears come up for me as I think about losing weight, and how has keeping this weight on helped me and hurt me.  My encouragement would be to ask these questions, to develop a positive relationship with your body, and seek help to unlock those areas that hold you back.  It can be done.”
