Lose 20 Pounds After 60
Want to know how to lose 20 pounds after 60?
Well I have an AWESOME transformation to share today that will answer that question!
Today’s story is none other than my Mom, Rosie! Back in June, my mother texted me her “before” pictures, and said, “Where do I begin?”.
She was ready. She wanted change. She wasn’t happy with how she was looking and feeling and though she wasn’t sure what was possible to achieve, she was ready to commit to the Hitch Fit process. She needed to know how to lose 20 pounds after 60. She wasn’t sure it was possible, but she was ready!
I could tell that she was serious, and it was go time!
I put together her Lose Weight Feel Great plan for women. her initial goal was just to lose 10 pounds. But since her body fat was in the 30’s, I knew that we could and should, do a bit more than that to get her to a healthy place.
She knew that carrying more body fat around the abdomen was a heart health risk, so the goal was to reduce that, and to really just get her in a great place where she feels confident in her clothes, and can continue living her full, active life! (She’s still a basketball referee too!).
Mom has now lost 20 pounds and 10% body fat! She even called me crying just 4 weeks in when some shorts that she thought would never fit into again, fit!! And today, they don’t fit any more because they are falling off! Great job Mom! So proud of you! Way to be an inspiration for all the ladies in their 60’s!!

Rosie’s Story & Hitch Fit Review:
I Am Literally, A Hitch Fit Mom
I have always been a very active individual. I grew up on a farm and knew what hard work was like. I was involved in all kinds of sports during my years of education. I began going to the gym during the years (in my 20’s) when my three daughters were born. I’ve always tried to maintain a regiment of strength training and healthy eating.
I am a basketball official, so knew I needed to maintain my stamina in order to run up and down a basketball court. Even through the years of menopause, I never had a lot of difficulty with hot flashes or serious weight gain, because I was active, at the gym, on the court, in life.
It wasn’t until after menopause that the weight gain began, very subtlety. I couldn’t just cut out on eating certain foods, or watch my diet for a few weeks, and see the pounds disappear, like I used to. It was as if my body had decided to hold on to every calorie I consumed. It didn’t help during that time period that a lot of stresses took place in my life – flooding in our home, care of elderly parents and a brother, and dealing with their passing – just to name a few. It seemed like suddenly my clothes weren’t fitting; I didn’t have as much energy (even though I tried to get to the gym on occasion). I loved to go running (jogging at least three miles every other day), but the arthritis in my knees started catching up with me, making that favorite form of exercise a thing of the past.
I have always been a cheerleader for my daughter and her husband, Diana and Micah LaCerte, and the Hitch Fit Program; helping with shows and supporting the events they have been a part of. I’ve known for a long time about the type of fitness program they offer to all their clients and the many successes they have had. When the weight gain and change in my body began, I kept thinking that someday, I would seek their help in getting me back in shape.
After a long period of procrastinating, my “aha” moment came this past spring, when I had to go out and buy a few pairs of shorts that wouldn’t be too tight; when my granddaughter remarked on how I was spilling out over the top of my bathing suit while we were playing in the pool; when I looked in the mirror – really looked! – and saw my stomach fat hanging over my shorts – even the shorts I had just purchased, I felt hopeless. I didn’t feel that how I looked in the mirror represented how I wanted to feel. I’m 64. I didn’t know what was really possible, but I knew I was ready to commit and try. It was then that I had my husband take the photos of me – front, side and back. I immediately sent them to Diana and said, “Where do I begin?”
I was determined, and to help matters, my husband Mark, who was a little on the heavy side as well, said whatever I did, he wanted to do; that he wasn’t going to make me prepare something different for him to eat; he wanted to lose the weight too.
Once Diana sent me the program, the process began. I was already going to the gym on a regular basis – I just needed to focus on the exercises she recommended. I went from someone who didn’t do a very good job of preparing ahead of time for what to eat for meals, to purchasing a scale and the appropriate foods and eating correctly, the right amounts and at the right times. No more going without eating because I was working, and then binging. No more junk food, sugar, dairy, and even alcohol. My husband and I were reading labels on everything we picked up in the store, and were beginning to realize just how many items were full of sugar, fat, and just plain junk!
I believe it was into the third week of staying on course, that I tried on a pair of shorts that I hadn’t been able to wear comfortably for a long time, and have them feel loose. I was so overwhelmed! I called Diana in tears and thanked her. It was an awesome moment. Those shorts actually don’t fit any longer..they are now too big!
One of my greatest fears was not knowing if I could stay on track when we travel. We drive from Texas to Vermont, and then back to Texas, every 90 days. I wasn’t sure how the diet would work while on the road. But we prepared ahead, utilized the little refrigerator we have in our car, and stayed the course. We never had to stop and eat anywhere along the way. When we stayed overnight, we would stick to the healthy stuff that the hotel had to offer for their morning breakfast buffet – oatmeal, fruits, etc.
When we went to Maine for a week in the summer, again, I was worried about eating out and making choices. Preparing ahead of time worked again. We brought our refrigerator and set it up in the room, stocking it with the foods we would need during the day after eating at the hotel’s breakfast buffet. When we dined out at night, I specified to our waiter/waitress how I would like to have prepared whatever the choice was that I made from the menu. The restaurants were phenomenal in granting my requests – no problems! Plus, I signed up at a little gym right near our hotel room, and did my workouts according to plan.
The pounds and inches have been coming off at a steady rate. When I started, I was thinking, “if I could only lose 10 pounds.” Diana said I was going to lose 20. I didn’t believe her. I don’t remember when was the last time I weighed below 140, except for a time during my 30s when I was really sick (and that was not a healthy loss). When I went below 150, I thought it would be cool to weigh what I did when I graduated from high school – 142. When I went below that number, I couldn’t believe it! And well, Diana was right. I lost 20 pounds and 10% body fat through this process.
Maybe I lose even more than 20 pounds. Maybe not. But both my husband and I agree that the healthy eating is now a way of life for us. As of today, at 70 years of age, Mark has already lost 22 pounds and wants to keep going for another 10!
We both feel better, and mentally have a much better outlook the life ahead – our “Golden” years. Now, I’m ready to go out and buy some more shorts! and jeans! This was important for us to continue living the active, traveling lifestyle that we love for many years to come.
It helps that I have a daughter who will keep of my progress, and keep me on the right track. But I know that I never want to be embarrassed when I look in the mirror again, or when I’m swimming in the pool with my granddaughter. And after 26 years of officiating basketball, as good as I feel right now, I may try to get one more year in of running up and down the court, as a way of celebrating my 65th year of life this coming February!
Thank you so much, Diana and Micah! Love you both for all your support!
