Mary’s Story and Hitch Fit Online Personal Training Review:
“I’m a runner. I’ve been running since my early 40s. I started the sport later in life and I’ve never been fast, but I do love it. I’ve been through the ups and downs most runner experience, the inevitable injuries and set a few personal records along the way. I’ve made some fantastic friends through running and built my weekends around long runs and races.
Five years ago, I was diagnosed with uterine and ovarian cancer and it turned my world upside down. A biopsy revealed cancer cells and I was scheduled for a radical hysterectomy within a few weeks. This was my first surgery, first serious illness and I was terrified. A few days after surgery, we learned both cancers were stage 1, which was great news. My oncologist ordered 6 rounds of chemo to ensure there were no cancer cells remaining. I am incredibly, incredibly blessed and just celebrated 5 years cancer free.
After making the journey through surgery and chemo, all I wanted to do was to get back to my pre-cancer life. For the past 4 years, as I got back into running, I continued to struggle. I was often fatigued and suffered through one pain after another. It felt like my running days were over and was heart breaking to think that might be the case.
This past spring, I signed up to run the Oklahoma City half-marathon with a group of friends. My plan for this race was to finally feel good throughout the entire race and finish strong. Once again, about 2/3rds of the way through the training plan, I once again, started to struggle with injuries, fatigue and listless runs. After pains in my knees and hip started to make me dread every run, I knew I had to do something different. I made my mind up to find a good strength training program.
While talking to a friend, I shared that I was going to cut way back on running and was looking for a strength training program. She told me about Hitch Fit. She had done the program and loved it. She told me that Micah and Diana would create a custom program for both strength training and nutrition. It was exactly what I’d been looking for and I couldn’t wait to get started!
The Weight Loss Plan
I reached out through the website and then met with Austin, one of the Hitch Fit trainers in Parkville. We determine the online training program was the best option for me. With a few days, I completed the paperwork, took my before pictures and emailed it in.
When Diana sent my plan, she wisely suggested I thoroughly read through everything before beginning. That was great advice! I even went to the gym the week before I officially started and did mini-run through,s of my first workout so I knew where the equipment was and how to use it.
The nutrition program she put together for me was so manageable. The program listed common, easy to find foods that fuel your body for the workouts, kept me full and gave me great energy.
Going to gym at first was a little intimidating – I hadn’t spent any time in a weight room for many years. To prepare myself, I watched the videos that Micah and Diana created for the program, a few times each. I drew crazy stick figures on the workout pages and took them to the gym with me (in a page protector) so I could confidently do each exercise. My first attempt at the ab workout was not pretty – doing my first week of bicycles, it looked like i was having some kind of a seizure! I kept at it and within a couple of weeks, I was able to complete each set with better and better form.
Over the course of my 12 week program, my energy level continued to climb, while my body kept getting stronger. I lost 14 pounds, gain muscle and strength and lost several inches from my waist and hips. During my program, I participated in the KC Corporate Challenge and won 3 gold metals and a sliver metal in swimming events for my age group. I also ran a small 5 mile race this summer and won my age group there, as well.
I can’t recommend Hitch Fit enough if you’re ready to make a change to your life! Their program is thorough, supportive and customized to your needs. You can do this…….You’re never too old and it’s never too late!”
