Amber Hanton Testimonial
A year ago I decided to embark on a journey to drop body fat, become more physically fit and improve my way of life completely! Although I had made this decision I knew it would not be easy to do on my own, so I reached out to my husband Hitch Fit Transformer James Hanton.
I had always been active in sports while growing up, I played competitive Soccer, Volleyball and Cheered, so I always had to be in good physical condition and was, up until I met my husband and a while after. It wasn’t until I tore my ACL for the 3rd time and had my 4th knee surgery in 2005 things started to go downhill. One month after my surgery we found out we were pregnant with our first child Alexandra. I had barely started physical therapy and my eating habits were not the best, I was used to eating what I wanted and still looking good because I was so active, but this was no longer the case. During this time my father, mother and I decided to buy a restaurant. Not the best enviornment for clean eating. I would skip meals, work long hours which meant not much sleep, and didn’t excercise because I would eat, sleep and breathe that restaurant to ensure it’s success. So what was MY EXCUSE? I DID NOT HAVE ANY TIME!!! Needless to say I gained quite a bit of weight with that pregnancy and I lost alot on my own after but never lost it all. I was to proud and let my pride get in the way of asking for help and guideance. In 2009 we still owned the restaurant and we got pregnant with our second child Capri. Again my diet was not on point but did make a conscious effort to eat healthier, I had some issues during pregnancy and time was still my main excuse!! Again the weight gain began!! After having Capri in October of 2010 I found myself heavier than I had been my whole life, my back hurt, and my knee’s were in constant pain!! That’s when the spiral began! We decided to sell the restaurant, I had two children, one in kindergarten and a newborn, I had a successful husband in the fitness industry who trained people for a living and competed in Fitness Competitions himself and there I was his Obese wife, and my girls Obese mother. I didn’t even recognize myself. Who was I ??? I then threw myself into my children! I avoided any public events, pictures, mirrors, etc. I was ashamed of my appearance. It wasn’t until 2011 WBFF Central World Championships here in Kansas City that something sparked. It could have been my 6 year old daughter saying “Mommy you used to be skinny like those girls, I saw pictures at nanna’s, are you going to look like that again!” Ya motivation there, that’s for sure!! But something else sparked, I was just done. I knew what I had to do! I wanted to be unrecognizable by WBFF Central World Championships of 2012!
The next day I sat my husband down and asked for his help! I had to admitt to him and myself that I had lost control!! He was so supportive, and then told me exactly what I had to do! So I decided to go through my own transformation and my husband was to be my trainer! Trust me I didn’t like it at first, but I knew it was necessary!! I needed to pull up my big girl panties and get it together. If anyone was going to be by my side through this I wanted it to be him. Plus, I am bringing up two daughters, and I needed to be a positve rolemodel and teach them about health and fitness so they can pass it along to their children.
So the diet began, at the start I was to do cardio everyday and we worked up to weight training. I was starting from ground zero. That was the first mental challenge. Even though we don’t exercise for a while, we still have a tendency to think we can still do what we used to. Yet, that was the easier part to get accustomed to, I could tell my body missed the excercise. It functioned better with it. The biggest challenge was the diet. I had to learn a whole new way to look at food, and eat alot more than I was accustomed. I ate 5-6 meals a day, this was crazy for me, but after a few weeks it became routine and essential as my weight training and cardio workouts kept getting more challenging. When I saw the body fat start dropping, I was estatic!! Sure it was nice to see the scale go down, but I knew the more important thing was the body fat. So by sticking to the program my husband had lined out for me I was able to lose 70, and 24% body fat by my goal date! I found a way to make it happen. I learned a whole new way of prioritizing, time management, sacrifices, and discipline. I Had to prepare food for the week, pack and bring meals to work, joined a gym that had day care, and when I couldn’t go, I would work out in the basement. Woke up early to do cardio before James would go to work, or would do it when he got home. It’s not easy, it’s alot of hard work! But so rewarding!! I have found myself again!! Amen!
I want to thank my awesome husband for putting up with me through all of the ups and downs, it’s not easy training your wife!! I love you to pieces!! Thank my children for all of their support, my mom who is an Awesome work out partner. She know’s my potential and pushes me to my limits, and all of the love and support from the rest of my family, extended family and friends. I have found a new passion in life, besides my family of course! Keep your eyes open for 2013 WBFF Central World Championships!!! Lots of exciting things coming up in the near future, so stay tuned!!
