Today’s transformation is….well, it’s me! It’s January 2015, and I realized that I’ve never shared my own transformation story here on Hitch Fit. And I think that it’s time. I know a lot of people see where I’m at now, and they think that I’ve always been fit or I’ve always been lean, and I’ve never had to deal with the struggles of losing weight, or emotional eating. That couldn’t be further from the truth. The reason I am SO passionate about helping others achieve their own personal transformation, is because I’ve been through it myself. I’ve BEEN there, I’ve had to do the work, make the changes to my eating and exercise habits, and be CONSISTENT to get where I wanted to be. For me, the goal was competition. That’s not necessarily your goal, it’s not the goal of the majority of people, but it was for me. It was my “super why”, the desire to get on stage was the thing that drove me to make the right choices even on the days I didn’t “feel” like it. Because I had my eye on something bigger. My focus was on where I knew I could be, if I stayed diligent in the here and now. This year marks 10 years since I went through my transformation. I’ve never looked back since that day, July 5, 2005, when I was finally so sick and tired of being sick and tired, so sick of smiling on the outside and crying on the inside, so sick of turning to food for comfort, and so sick of not feeling like I was worth it, that I changed. It didn’t take me months to decide to change, it didn’t take weeks. It literally took an instant, an “aha” moment, when I finally threw all my personal excuses out the window and decided to see what I was really capable of. I thank God every day for that moment. That moment of realization and commitment changed the course of my life, and it can and will change yours too. I hope that you find something here in the pages of Hitch Fit that inspires you to make that change and that commitment, because I can tell you that transformation is tough, but it is SO worth it!

Diana’s Story:

I don’t just talk about the transformation process or do this for a living because I think it’s a good idea, or something nice to experience, I talk about it SO much because it’s what changed my own life personally. I don’t even have a before picture that is my heaviest weight, I was about 12 – 15 pounds heavier than this before image, and avoided mirrors and scales because at 175 pounds, I was the heaviest for me that I had ever been. I was unhappy, I was binge eating when no one was watching, and my confidence was shot. I didn’t feel good. I understand that there are people who look at my before and say, Oh that isn’t that bad… but for me, I didn’t like it and I wasn’t living up to my full potential. The transformation process is what taught me the discipline I needed to start living life to the fullest, my personal goal was to compete, but that doesn’t have to be yours! Everyone’s goals, and where they are going to be able to be their greatest at their purposes in life is a little different. For me, there was freedom in the discipline I learned through transforming my body. There was relief as I stopped my unhealthy eating behaviors and understood that I had complete control over them. There was relief when feeding my emotions was no longer a stronghold in my life. I know that the girl in the picture on the left is smiling, but she was hurting on the inside. I never ever want to be there again, that’s why Hitch Fit is based on transformation, it’s why I am SO passionate about seeing people go through this process. Because I know what it’s like on the other side, and it’s so much better on this side. The sacrifice in my eyes, isn’t not getting to eat a bunch of food that makes my body sluggish and overweight, the BIG sacrifice would be if I did choose to eat that and miss out on what a healthy and fit body feels like.

And guess what, living healthy doesn’t mean that I eat perfectly all the time, when I was undergoing my own personal transformation I did…you could hold my absolute favorite cheat food under my nose and it would not tempt me at all because my sites were set on the bigger picture and where I wanted to be. The reason I ask that people be 100% during their personal transformations is not just because they will get their physical results most efficiently, but also because it is an empowering thing, mentally, emotionally and spiritually to really commit and see something through from beginning to end, without thinking you have to cheat, or telling yourself you can’t do something without cheating. The truth of the matter is, you CAN, for 12 weeks, for a blip in time, be 100% with what you’re focused on. And you will be SO much stronger (not just physically…mentally and emotionally) when you do. When you release those thoughts that you are dependent on cheating, or that you can’t do something for yourself without cheating. There is such freedom in the realization that you don’t NEED to cheat, that it doesn’t control you. The GREATEST relief when I went through my transformation was freedom from thinking I couldn’t control binge eating. I felt helpless for so long. The empowerment of knowing that I was in control was life altering for me.  But now that I’m in this place, a place of maintenance, and have lived the lifestyle for so long, if I would like to go to eat with my husband and have dinner or a dessert, then guess what, I do it! But the majority of the time, I make healthy choices, because that’s how my body feels and looks the way that helps me perform my best in life. And it’s a FUN life. I hear people say that living healthy wouldn’t be any fun…well it is way MORE fun than not feeling good about how you look or feel, or feeling like you’re not in control when it comes to what you’re putting in your body.

My stats? I was about 175 pounds in 2005. I stepped on a scale one day and when it up over 175 I jumped off and didn’t get back on again until months later. I signed up for my first fitness competition on July 5, 2005, I had already shed about 10 – 12 pounds at the time of my “before” pictures. I wish I had taken them when I was at my heaviest to be honest! I trained for 18 weeks for my first competition. I was 100% with my nutrition, my sites were focused on what I wanted the next phase of my life to be. I shed about 45 pounds total for that first show, my competition weight back then was about 130 pounds (I was competing in Figure at the time). I won my first show, and knew that I had found the life that was right for me! My competition body fat was about 9-10%. On my off season, my body fat would go back up to a healthier place around 12 – 15% and my scale weight I would keep no higher than 7-10 pounds from competition weight. I competed for a little over 6 years, retiring in late 2011 with 2 World Champion titles and 6 first placements. My body frame is smaller now as I no longer need to carry the muscle needed for figure competition, I maintain in a 123-126 pound range on the scale and still stay around a 13-15% body fat year round. That’s my happy place. It’s a place that I am comfortable at, and enjoy life at!
