I grew up a skinny kid with affectionate nicknames like “Bones” and “Little Amy.” I was never involved in sports or regular exercise and I pretty much ate whatever I wanted, sounds pretty great right…not really.  Once I reached my college years, I was still following this approach to life, but my metabolism slowed and the junk foods I ate weren’t burning off like they used to.  I put on the Freshman 15, and another Sophomore 5, bringing me up to about 130-135. I pretty much maintained this weight, give or take a few temporary losses, for the next 10 years.  I wasn’t overweight, but I was never really happy with what I saw in the mirror. I wanted that toned sculpted body I saw on the fitness magazines, but I didn’t know how to get it.

When I got out into the real world and started making money, I bought the infomercial exercise programs and even I tried sessions with several different trainers at my local gyms, but my body never seemed to change.  There was always something missing: no food plan, no push to work harder, no motivation, or no feedback. I finally got frustrated and basically quit trying, that coupled with increased job responsibilities and my un-interest in cooking resulted in me gaining another 10-15 pounds. But as easy as it was to go to a drive-thru for lunch or out to eat for dinner, it was growing more difficult to fit into my clothes. Finally in the fall of 2011 I got tired of finding ways to “creatively” dress to conceal the fact that my pant seams were about to bust. This uncomfortable feeling got me re-energized about my dream of having that physically fit physique.

I did a search for personal trainers who “specialized” in competition prep, I felt I needed someone with that expertise to understand that even though I wasn’t overweight, I could still be in better shape.  During my search I came across the Hitchfit website and was blown away by what I saw. It was almost hard to believe that so many people had transformed themselves in such a relatively short period of time. I was intrigued, but not sure an “online” trainer would work for me, so I sent Micah an email full of questions. I also asked for a guarantee that if I followed the program exactly as he said, I would get just as amazing results.  To my surprise he responded in about an hour with answers to all my questions and told me that he didn’t want me to purchase a program until I was ready to completely commit, and at that point, I would be able to achieve those results.

It took me several months before I decided it was time to make the commitment.  My husband agreed to do the program with me and we purchased the couple’s bootcamp package, which we started on the day after the Super Bowl, one last hoorah.  On that very first day, my husband discovered he had a torn meniscus from a previous injury and ended up requiring knee surgery and rehab.  So much for my bootcamp partner I thought, but to my surprise he stuck with the food plan and began adding in upper body and cardio as his rehab progressed.

I, on the other hand, was determined from day 1 to do everything the plan asked of me, I would prove to myself that an online program could work…and it did!  The cooking took some getting used to, but we purchased some gadgets that made things easier and developed a Sunday ritual of getting everything cooked, packaged and stored in the freezer for the rest of the week.  Always having the appropriate foods available helped make it easy to make the right choices.  The workouts were a bit intimidating at first, but when I went to the gym I gave every workout every ounce of energy and effort that I had.  I strived every time to do a little more than the time before, and I made it a point not to look at the future workouts, so I wouldn’t get overwhelmed and convince myself I wasn’t capable of getting it done.  There were times along the way that I struggled and had questions, but Micah was always there with encouraging words and guidance to get me through. Then about 10 weeks into the program people at the gym started asking me questions about what I was doing and making comments about how hard I was working. This just fueled my motivation even more.

I continued to give it my all until the very last day when I had the opportunity to go to Kansas City and take my after pictures. To my surprise not only did I get to meet Micah that day and thank him for guiding me through this amazing journey, but I also met two other transformation clients who’s before & after pictures on the Hitchfit website had inspired me along the way. The entire experience was unbelievable. I had started many programs in the past but never completed any of them, and I had taken many ‘before’ pictures but this was my first ‘after.’  I’ve always drawn inspiration from transformation stories and now hopefully I can inspire people with my own.  I feel so proud of what I accomplished and I look forward to continuing this lifestyle!

My words of advice: Don’t cheat yourself, always work hard and give it all you have because you alone control the outcome!
