What a Great way to Blast off 2012. Mari came to me about 8 weeks after having her Baby with a goal to get in the best shape of her life. In 16 weeks she went from 155-119 lbs. AWESOME. She is in better shape, better health and better spirits!!! Im so happy for Mari, Her Husband Curt and their new little baby!!! Nothing better then the gift of life and health!!!
I grew up in a very athletic family. My brother and sisters all excelled at any sport they put their hands on; I was the reader. Everyone encouraged me to be more active and find my sport, but nothing ever seemed to fit. After college, I realized how out of shape I had become and figured I needed to do something, anything. I began going to the nearest gym; I’d get on the elliptical for thirty minutes a time. Nothing changed, not my body, not my mind, not my spirit.
It took about ten years, but I finally realized what I lacked, discipline. I decided that each area of my life needed it. I didn’t even know where to begin, so I began simply. I started going to church every Sunday. There were to be no more claims that I was busy attending the Church of the NFL. I started being more careful with my money and began paying my bills when they were due and not before the late charge was assessed. The final thing was physical discipline. I felt like I had failed every time I tried. When I found out that a family friend had begun training people I decided to give it a try. I saw changes to my physique that I never had before. I met my husband during this time. I felt so close to my goals.
And then we found out I was pregnant and all of the old insecurities came racing to the forefront of my mind. Would I be able to stay in shape? We would have four kids between the two of us, all in car seats. How was I going to be able to handle that while working? And then morning sickness hit, and I could barely function. My normal favorites made my stomach turn, even when a container was opened across the room. I felt faint even when walking on the treadmill at a low speed. Fast food became my go to for every meal. McDonald’s had the best breakfast, Arby’s I could eat for lunch and dinner, throw Taco Bell or KFC in on occasion and that was my pregnancy meal plan. The OBGYN even suggested replacing my black coffee with Mountain Dew to give me more energy. When I asked how many; because one wasn’t enough, she said, “Try to keep it under 12.” I felt out of control, but I kept telling myself that I was coping. Once I had the baby, everything would return to normal. In the final trimester, when I was feeling better, I tried to start watching what I ate and would attempt to go to the gym to walk. I couldn’t replicate what I had been doing with the trainer, even the little I could remember; and I was constantly hungry. I remember I was reading through the Hitch Fit transformations and saw that they had a post-pregnancy program for breastfeeding moms; I knew I had to at least try.
The first time back in the gym was daunting. It was a new gym and I didn’t know where anything was besides the dumbbells. All I wanted to do was get on the elliptical, but I knew I’d have to figure out the weights sooner or later. So with my binder in hand I started through the exercises. After a couple of weeks, I started to feel more comfortable. The weight also started to drop very consistently. The nutrition kept me feeling full and I felt empowered by all of the information Micah had supplied me with through the program. I eat bad food when I’m stressed; because of Hitch Fit, I am aware of it, I try to make my food choices intentional and not a reaction to my environment. I have been Mountain Dew free for just over four months; and probably most importantly, I am at my lowest weight since high school and my strongest.
Looking forward, I’m so excited about the future. Micah has picked me up, dusted me off and put me back on the right track and I can’t wait to see where it will lead. Thank you!
