5 Tips for Working Out During the Holidays

Although the middle of November until the early part of January is one of the most fun times of the year, it also happens to be the busiest.  With many holiday parties, gifts to wrap, and planes to catch, it can be really tough to find time to fit in a workout.

We stress with our clients the importance of staying fit and active at all times of the year. But we also realize how busy it gets around the holidays and how difficult staying the transformation course can be (especially with all the temptations around!!!). In an effort to keep you active and fit this season, we’ve compiled a list of 5 ideas for working out during the holidays:

1.      Short, high intensity workouts

If time doesn’t allow you the luxury of your standard hour-long workout, opt for a high intensity circuit workout that can be completed in half the time, yet yield nearly the same results. If you need some inspiration, here are some workouts that can be done in just 15 minutes!

2.      Plyometrics

As a staple and favorite of many pro athletes, plyometrics combine athletic strength movements along with cardio providing a double whammy of a workout.

3.      At-home workout

If you’re super crunched on time or can’t sneak away to the gym because you have company, you can always work out at home. Simple exercises like planks, push-ups and sit-ups can all be completed at home with very little space.

4.      Work out in increments

Split your workouts up into two sessions a day.  Do your cardio in the morning and your lift at night—by splitting up your workout, the length of your workout time won’t seem nearly as long and grueling.  If you plan on running 4 miles, get up early and run 2, and then run the remaining 2 with a friend before dinner.

5.      Plan an activity to get others involved

If you’ve got an abundance of people at your home, why not gather everyone andbe active together? Go for a group walk, play a game of touch football, go ice skating! Anything that is active and inclusive will do.

Don’t let the excuse of the holidays be your downfall!!!  You can find time to get a workout in—all you need to do is want it bad enough. The last thing you should do is wait for the New Year to just so you can create your new workout resolution. Be proactive and lose weight before the holiday season. Don’t forget to add smaller pants to your wish list—you’re going to need them!!
